Hi i was just wondering, to train for the figure side of bodybuilding is it just as intense as to train for the more muscular bodybuilding? or is it along the same lines as far as dieting and training go.... do they do less weights more reps or or heavier weights and less reps? Nadine

They generally train pretty similar, quite heavy, eat plenty of protein, perhaps less carbs and do cardio the same. Remember, naturally girls dont have the same ability as men to pack on size due to the different hormones of course. Therefore girls need to understand that they are able to train intense, eat well and not look like Ronnie Coleman in a bikini . Remember, this is especially the case with natural girls, but once you go unnatural then depending on what and how much you use you can add masses of weight. Jodes and Rosie are great people to chat to about anything to do with female competing, their both ace Bugz

Hi, Toned figure and trained figure categories are very different and the judges are looking for specific criteria, see the federations rules and guidelines. Too muscular for one or not lean enough for another often leads to being marked down and therefore women’s figure competing can be extremely objective. I agree with bugz ,in that to begin with the girls do train the same although personal choice dictates the preferred physique they wish to build. Similar to the guys some women will find genetically it easier to build muscle than others whether natural or not. I have known some very muscular natural ladies although I do agree that none of them would rival Ronnie Coleman. Once the goal is decided then the training and nutrition and diet will be tailored towards this. The toned figures girls are required to have a less muscular and softer appearance than the trained figure girls. The trained figure girls tend to be more advanced and experienced athletes who carry more muscle mass, have a much leaner harder physique whilst still maintaining their femininity. Again one step further than this is the physique ladies where they are required to carry a huge amount of muscle for a woman. Each category requires hard training and dedication, although to achieve the very low body fat levels required for trained figure and physique generally the athletes have to diet much longer and harder to achieve this. In my opinion trained figure and physique ladies tend to carry more mature muscle through years of hard training which is not required for the toned figure classes. Some women choose to use AAS to gain more muscle mass than they would do naturally to compete in certain federations and classes. This is down to personal choice and it has to be an informed decision. If women choose to take this route then it is best they fully understand the implications and potential long term side effects of the meds they use. Whichever route you take, federation or class you choose, train hard, diet hard and be safe! Jodes x.
