I was watching a collection of Arnie films the other day with my dad. What a great bodybuilder he trully was and what an inspiration.
Do you think more of the pros should carry a more aesthetic physique like this today? For sure he was a monster, yet he had a lovely tight waistline with a massive V Taper.
How would Arnie do on the IFBB Pro scene today?

Oh this is a very touchy subjected for a lot of people, with the different nutrition and supplements available I believe Arnie would still be up there with the best, however, to say he would be Mr Olympia is another question as there are some bodybuilders out there, with what I believe are superior genetics. The true answer is we will never know, but still he was and is the biggest name in body building. People want to see monsters, and always will, the aesthetics side isn't IMO the top criteria any more, and I must admit to being a fan of the mass monsters, good for the sport? again, time will tell. Guys like Dexter are aesthetically pleasing, but with plenty of mass, would Arnie beat them hhhhmmmmm IMO not!!! Only my thoughts for what it's worth

I see what you mean. If you look at Arnie's legs compared to say Cutler's theres not alot to compare in as much as condition and size. Also when you look at the weight difference, its incredible especially when you also consider their height differences too.
I also like mass monsters but only when their frame lends itself. For example, Zack Khan is an absolute freak yet he has a relatively small waistline. Take someone like Coleman or Cutler and their midsection looks pretty wide and blaoted.
One things for Arnie, as huge as he was his midesection was always kept impeccably tight. Did anybody read his column in Flex about how today pros dont make enough effort to keep a good tight waistline?
As far as it been good for the sport? No, I dont think so and I will tell you why. When people look at the more aesthetic pros such as Flex Lewis, David Henry, Eduardo and even Zack although hes ALOT bigger people want to be like it and find it appealing. I dont think as many fin it appealing to have a waist nearly as wide as their latts!!! Again this is just my opinion.
Lets hear everyone elses!

If you want to talk about old masters and tight waists.
What about Vince Gironda, trainer of Arnie and many pro's, the master of taper and condition.
He condition was beyond belief, he was even marked down at a universe for carrying to much muscle (all be it something like 1948) and before a lot ergo aids.
This guy new a thing or two and in my opinion most of his theories are the basis of what all the great trainers and supplement are based on.

Attached a picture of Vince Gironda over 60 years ago. Those of you who don't know him you should, whilst some of his idea's are out of date it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants like this that we have the advnacements we have today. Vince lived bodybuilding, look at his condition before the days of gear. He trained many greats. Arnie Dave Draper Larry Scott Sergio Olivia to name a few along with many stars. He identified using natural sources of chromium beofre it was isolated, new the importance of good fats, fertile eggs, the importance of complete protein sources the power of vegetables, cycled carbs and had many different training methods. The Legends work lives on. Attachments:

Not only was Vince the master of shape and symmetry but also condition.
He was ripped beyond belief for that era! many of his nutritional theories and training practice's have just been added to and given fancy names and have been all the rage recently.
If you don't know who Vince Gironda is taken some time and do some research, it will be worth it.
The first trainer of champions.
